Also,this investigation aims to offer a space to study intersemiotic translation in depth, as well as social phenomena like capitalism and consumerism. It analyzes how the capitalist critique in American Psycho is altered by the degeneracy phenomenon in its film adaptation, it also identifies the meaning units that compose said critique, describes and compares them. In order to conclude if these units were altered, transformed, or omitted in the film adaptation. Regarding the methodology, this project has a qualitative focus, an interpretative paradigm, is a descriptive study and uses hermeneutical phenomenology for its documentary review. The main results of this investigation show that social segregation and the objectification of women, key meaning units for the capitalist critique, are deeply affected by the degeneracy phenomena, losing the original intention of the original text.Este proyecto nace de la necesidad de entender el fenómeno “degeneracy” y cómo este afecta los procesos de traducción intersemiótica. Además, esta investigación busca ofrecer un espacio para el estudio de la traducción intersemiótica en profundidad y otros fenómenos sociales como el capitalismo y el consumismo. El proyecto analiza cómo la crítica capitalista en American Psycho se ve afectada por el fenómeno “degeneracy” en la adaptación cinematográfica, identificando las unidades de significado que componen dicha crítica, describiéndolas y comparándolas para concluir si fueron alteradas, transformadas o suprimidas durante el proceso de traducción. En cuanto a la metodología, este proyecto tiene un enfoque cualitativo, un paradigma interpretativo, es un estudio descriptivo y usa la fenomenología hermenéutica como herramienta para el análisis documental. Los resultados principales de este proyecto muestran que temas como la segregación social y la cosificación de las mujeres, temas clave dentro de la novela, fueron afectados en gran medida por el fenómeno “degeneracy”, y esto, en definitiva, muestra una pérdida de significado entre las dos versiones.1.
