Resumen en inglés
Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face several challenges in their everyday lives which affect their adaptive capacity in social and physical environments. Fashion and garments are no exception; their impact is among the most significant because of the sensory hypersensitivity characteristics associated with both neurodevelopmental disorders triggered by certain textures, details, fit and sizing. Any of these components, are stimulus which could cause evident emotional and behavioral reactions depending on the level of discomfort or sense of security the clothing offer during the dressing process. Taking into consideration the significance of affording comfort to ASD and children in dressing process, the development of a jacket prototype is proposed by using and including suitable textures, art therapy elements and sounds as positive stimulus which make them feel safe and make it easier to put it on and take it off. Through this prototype and project, it is proposed to use fashion as a helpful resource for children to promote their autonomy and welfare in their routine task.
