Its main focus was on analyzing the applicability of using non-structural English to a group of taxi drivers who frequently transported foreigners in Bogota city. Two major instruments of collecting data were designed and used: an interview for foreigners who live in Bogota and a survey for taxi drivers to elicit their opinions. The collected data were analyzed and allowed to create an analysis matrix that triangulated the information, taking into account the relevance of the results obtained it was suggested the use of an non-structural English as a communication tool between taxi drivers and foreigners and economic development. Furthermore this research yielded information about taxi driver's job, since often they are the first contact for foreigners who visit the city, besides it was evident the necessity to speak English to increase their income and provide better service that allows easy and assertive communication, qualifying the profession of taxi drivers in Bogota.Publicación Acceso abierto Communicative problems of modern languages students when translating(Universidad ECCI, 2016) Garavito Bernal, Viviana Alexandra; Muñoz Murcia, Carolina; Salinas Ángel, Natalia Estefanía; Vargas Gonzáles, Jorge YezidTranslation is an activity that needs communication because it is a process that transmits a message to a person, so that it can be understood correctly in a target language. Communication is done through a medium in circumscribed situations in time and space. Each specific situation determines about what and how people communicate. Situations are not universal, but they are embedded in a cultural habitat, which in turn has an impact on them. Communication gets more complex when it comes to transmitting a message from one language to another. For this reason, translated texts begin to present cohesion and coherence problems, and this was evidenced in the text translation class because the students of modern languages at ECCI University began to have difficulties at the moment of translating, because of that, the main purpose of the present thesis is to give a detailed description of the communicative problems students face, when they translate in the specific case from English into Spanish and vice versa.Publicación Acceso abierto Comunicación organizacional Interna y Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación(2018) Medina Londoño, Mardien Yisney; Parra Medina, Mónica del Pilar; Vargas Gonzáles, Jorge YezidLas habilidades comunicativas contribuyen a mejorar las relaciones interpersonales, siendo indispensables dentro de las organizaciones. El éxito de estas últimas depende de que todos sus organismos se encaminen hacia un objetivo en común, retroalimentándose de manera efectiva. A través del método cualitativo, orientado en la línea correlacional esta investigación hace énfasis en como las TIC han revolucionado las empresas en los últimos años. Mediante el análisis de autores y expertos eruditos se extrapola la relación existente entre las TIC y la evolución de las organizaciones, por medio de la recopilación de documentos escritos, publicaciones y diversos artículos. Además, también se emplea la observación participante, en la que se considera 10 individuos con edades comprendidas entre los 23 y 40 años, pertenecientes al gremio laboral de la ciudad de Bogotá. This research suggests that the differences in male and female communication styles affect and have an influence when communicating with people from another cultures. The cultural barriers in societies are massive referring to differences and stereotypes are the main reason for this barriers to exist. This document seeks to define gender stereotypes and their impact in interculturality. In addition, this paper explains and makes a contrast in women and men communication in relation with human behavior. As main conclusion of this document it can be argued that gender roles and stereotypes affect intercultural communication processes and create a social impact that hinders the expression of ideas and thoughts between men and women.Publicación Acceso abierto Gender roles stereotypes in the workplace(Universidad ECCI, 2016) Castellanos Ángel, Lorena Alexandra; Cruz Castellanos, Ricardo Javier; Vargas Gonzáles, Jorge YezidThis literary review explores the concepts of gender, sex, stereotype, and gender roles, applied to the workspace. It is important to make the distinction between the first two terms, as they are often confused among people. Besides, this paper is focused on how gender role stereotypes influence all the processes involved in the work areas: from applying to a job, to the opportunities to advance once a person is already working in a company. Given that women are the most affected by these kinds of stereotypes, it has been necessary to study -in a brief way-, some historical moments of women’s struggle to get to the same level as men in every possible aspect in the social context. In conclusion, this paper enabled the identification of gender roles stereotypes and their relevance in the work field in present days; as they lead to prejudices when meeting other people; and the division of professions into masculine and feminine these roles make, affects in a major way people’s job opportunities and career development.Publicación Acceso abierto Gerencial games in business administration(Universidad ECCI, 2015) Serpa Mosquera, Gustavo Roberto; Osorio González, Joibert; Grisales Heredia, Zayda; Vargas Gonzáles, Jorge YezidThis work aims at identifying the perception of modern languages students with emphasis on administration and students of other areas about the management simulators which are Zoo Tycoon and Papa’s Freezeria. This is done In order to contribute to a macro project at ECCI University which is the creation of a management simulator. To develop our research, a qualitative analysis was applied to five participants. The information was collected through matrixes and also via bibliographic research nationally and internationally to guide and contrast concepts. Over the years Hollywood has created a global phenomenon around the world as they have the control about the Cinematographic Industry, for this reason they are a communication bridge between cultures. In a sense, they have created stereotypes of people and in this way they created an image of people from different countries and cultures, but sometimes those images could be negatives and sometimes those are positives depending on how much Hollywood knows about the culture they are referring. It is highly probable that Latin American people have been adapted to the different behaviors that they perceive from the North American people and is this way they change their way to think. Our main purposes were to determine the feasibility of creating this bookshop that we called The Wisdom Door and to identify the possible contents that the Christian believers would like to find in English. Based on a qualitative-exploratory research, we applied as instruments for the data collection, 100 surveys and two focus group with 36 people of the Christian community at the church Manantial de Vida in Bogota to response the research questions. Through the data analysis were established four categories with some subdivisions with the participants’ opinions that revealed that there is a high interest in the Christian believers for the bookstore proposed and we found that The Wisdom Door must to take into account a variety of contents divided in sections, material and topics, to satisfy all the desires and expectations that the potential customers have with the online Christian bookshop in English.Publicación Acceso abierto Perception of students and teachers from escuela colombiana de carreras industriales modern languages program on the relationship between english and organizational management(Universidad ECCI, 2014) Rodríguez Mancera, Diana Carolina; Pinilla Pachón, Francened; Martínez Sierra, Luisa Fernanda; Vargas Gonzáles, Jorge YezidThis project shows the perception process of the relationship between English and Organizational management. These perceptions identify the environment into Escuela Colombiana de Carreras Industriales on Modern Languages program with management focus respect to both sectors; taking into account the influence that it has for students and teachers in their professional training. In addition this project is supporting by bibliographical sources, audiovisual materials and professional and basic training; which reveal important characteristics and different points of view. The perceptions provide particular support for research between these aspects. In order to clarify this aspect about the use or the speech of it as relevant in the major at ECCI, it developed an idea to perceive different opinions and points of view of students according to their training during the final stage of their professional cycle. The participants were the main support to put into practice the qualitative method, where, each category reflected positives aspects related to the native language. These aspects allowed underlining the importance of native language as support to learn a foreign language as well as to improve the curriculum of this major. Additionally the results showed that the students have a big interest for the first language and take a special attention to learn a foreign one.
