A prototype of a system is presented, this outcome is the result of a waterfall process from a tech development which starts from the beginning of the analysis of the problem, up to the working MVP (Minimum Viable Product) that shows that may be a solution in a feasible praxis. ECCI University is located in a wide geographical distribution what is not a typical situation for this kind of institution. In middle of its growth process, this university has 3 different locations in Bogota and each branch has several buildings. This solution is focused to the problematic situation that is noticed at the main branch (Teusaquillo) that is extended through buildings that goes from ‘A’ to ‘S’ letters. The university holds a population of about 21000 students, and this situation of not finding the classrooms, offices and conference room is often seen in students from first semesters. This effort is the result of the analysis and moreover it is the proposal solution in order to reduce the problem that has been mentioned using the tools that ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) may offer to the academic community. A technology development that is based on “Open Source” tools was performed and it gives an outcome that may be run at a single and friendly location information kiosk or on the web, using this mean a 3D pathway can be shown and students can get the information they need in order to get to the place they have to, so, they might get to the target in an autonomous and friendly way. As result, this development team delivers a final package that include a 100% functional prototype that runs using a web browser that may be located in a kiosk just to the main entrance of the desire building or on the institutional webpage. This process has mainly a result the analysis of the problem and the design of this interface just before finishing with the development that is necessary, besides, the use of the technological tools that may bring a solution. The learning outcomes of the subject ‘Information System Design’ have been used with the purpose of have a structured and standardized development that is based on a 3D model of a building named ‘Sede P’ located at Calle 51 and carrera 20. This mock-up may be used as a model to follow for any other building or branch using the same workflow. Moreover, the lesson learned may be used in order to do not make the same mistakes that the beginning of this experience may show, and taking advantage of the way and different trials that the development team of this prototype (Students that are getting the new academic grade) coursed during this academic project. This is just the beginning, and this effort may be taken by the University for other Buildings in order to improve the new student experience.
